Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who are you people?
We are a group of first and second year RN students from Central Oregon Community College in Bend, OR who have been selected as part of an international medical relief team traveling to the Dominican Republic in July of 2013.  We are partnering with Project Helping Hands (a non-profit organization based in Eugene, OR) on this exciting mission.

What will you be doing in DR?
Besides examining patients who come to the clinics, duties can include everything from organizing and maintaining a clinic or organizing and staffing the pharmacy, to assessing and triaging patients who pour into the clinics every day.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work, why are you doing this?
Each person has his or her own reason(s) for being part of this medical team.  We all basically feel the desire to “give back” to our fellow humans (plus it doesn’t look bad on a resume).   The real takeaway is: we are all donating our time and expertise to help a population living in extreme poverty with no routine access to medical care.

Why do you want/need my donation?
The costs associated with getting people to the Dominican Republic, transportation on the ground, and food/lodging is more than most of us students can afford.  That’s why we are looking for ANY donation from generous people like you.

Ok, I want to donate, but how do I do it?
Great question!  It’s really easy to donate.  If you can stop by one of our fundraiser events, you can meet some of us and donate in person (usually we will be selling raffle tickets for prizes).  Or…you can jump online and donate to our COSMO group with this link.

 Is my donation tax-deductible?
Of course!  ANY donation of $20 or more will garner you a receipt from Project Helping Hands (a great non-profit organization).  If donating in-person, we gather your information in order to facilitate getting you a donation receipt from PHH.

I only have a couple of dollars to donate; will it even make a difference?
ABSOLUTELY!!!  Any donation is greatly appreciated.  Our entire group needs to raise $21,500 in order to make this a reality so any amount you can contribute will help bring this number closer to reality for us!

I like what I’m hearing (reading), is there any way to follow your progress?
Yes.  We are continuously updating our blog (that’s where you found this page) and we continue to tweet from our fundraising events and upcoming opportunities for people to engage with us.  You can follow us on Twitter at:
